The plan · Eleven months to Durban
From five kilometres to eighty-nine.
The road to the 100th Comrades on 13 June 2027, broken into phases. Base now; the highlight moves as I do.
-
Base
Build easy volume and let the tendons catch up to the lungs. The long run grows from 5 km toward 21 km. Consistency over speed — this is where Comrades is quietly won.
-
Marathon block
Sharpen toward a sub-5:00 standard marathon — the official Comrades qualifier. Long run peaks around 32 km. A flat Gauteng race, run to earn the entry.
-
Comrades-specific
Back-to-back long runs and downhill quad conditioning for the descents that break undertrained legs. Training the body for 89 km, not just for distance.
-
Taper
Wind the volume down and let the work rise to the surface. Arrive at the start line fresh, not fried.
-
The 100th Comrades
89 km, down-run, Pietermaritzburg to Durban. The historic one. Everything above is in service of this single day.
