Nothing to report

DIST  5.3 km TIME  37:08 EFFORT  easy

Today’s run can be summed up in three words: nothing to report.

An easy 5km, strategic walks folded in, the usual rhythm. No tight legs. No lingering rust. No back muttering. No “the illness really took it out of me.” Nothing worth writing a paragraph about — which is precisely why I’m writing one.

Because after October — the cold, the chest, the fortnight flattened, the careful climb back — a completely unremarkable run is a small triumph. Three runs this week, each one quieter than the last: Monday had faint signs I’d been away, and by today even those were gone. Just a man, an easy pace, and some more mileage quietly added to the legs.

That’s what “back to normal” actually looks like. Not a breakthrough, not a personal best, not a dramatic comeback moment. Just an ordinary run that asked nothing special of me and gave nothing special back, and left me exactly where I want to be: healthy, moving, and reaccumulating the base one easy kilometre at a time.

The engine’s running smoothly again. The road feels like the road again. And the most boring run of my comeback is, quietly, one of the most reassuring.

Nothing to report. Best report there is.
